Scots Dumpy
General Description: Large
Fowl (2.7Kg-3.2Kg) Bantam
(675g-800g)
This breed has been
bred in Scotland for more than 100 years. The birds have also been called Bakies,
Crawlers and Creepies because of its short legs. The gene that produces their
short legs is the same one that produces the short legged Dexter Cattle. I don't
know how it crossed species though! Similar birds have been known to exist as
long ago as the tenth century. They enjoy free ranging and are good layers and
mothers. Both large and bantams available.
Main Colours:
No fixed colour but most widely seen are Black, Cuckoo, White, Brown, Gold and
Silver.
