Our Rosecombs

This is our senior cockerel Bourbon Edoudard who needs his beak trimming on this photograph.  Some individuals just seem to have quick growing beaks and nails and need the occasional manicure.

His wife is called Bibi Maizoon. They are both named after roses of course. The hen has a much smaller comb and, as with most chickens, though not as flamboyant as the male is still very attractive.

Chickens become very tame with regular handling, and even those that don't appreciate being cuddled soon get to know who feeds them and come running when they hear you approach.

Fresh greens are always interesting and a welcome addition to chicken pellets. Chick weed is especially popular as it breaks into beak size pieces very easily.

There are other colours but we only keep Columbian. We were attracted by the beautiful plumage and the Columbian has only recently been acknowledged as a standard colour for the breed. The first columbian feathered chicken was a Wyandotte shown in Columbia (USA) - hence the name. We are also trying to breed columbian feathered Yokohamas. Having bred one female we need to get the colour breeding true.
