This
is a true bantam, having no large version, though they were originally thought
to be a bantam version of the Cochin, and still referred to as such in America.
They were brought to Europe from China in 1860 when the Anglo-French expedition
destroyed the Summer Palace in Pekin. They are excellent broodies and attentive
mothers. Can sometimes be aggressive to their own kind but these engaging little
birds enjoy human company and make good pets becoming very tame if handled
gently.
