Minorca

General Description: Large (2.7Kg-3.6Kg)  Bantam (850g-960g)
The Minorca is one of several Spanish breeds brought to this country in Victorian times by sea-farers trading in the Mediterranean. These birds were found on both the island of Menorca and on mainland Spain. There are even earlier reports of them in Devon (1780) when many Spanish prisoners of war settled here permanently and brought their birds with them. This is the heaviest of the light large fowl, and lays the largest white eggs of any breed (200 a year). A graceful and docile bird but does not like damp.
Both sexes have large white wattles and the hen has a floppy comb similar to the leghorn.
