Belgian Bearded
There are three Belgian Bearded Bantams are standardised in this
country – Barbu d’Anvers (bearded Antwerp), Barbu d’Uccle (bearded Uccle)
and Barbu de Watermael (bearded Watermael). All are true bantams. The first two
also have rumpless forms named Barbu Du Grubbe and Barbu D'Everberg
respectively.
Barbu D’Anvers
General Description:
True Bantam
(570g-790g)
The Barbu d’Anvers is small and proud, standing
upright and seemingly always about to crow. They are very active and pugnacious
little show offs. They all fly well and are happiest kept in an aviary, or free
range, but roosting in trees is not to be recommended as it is not particularly
safe.

Barbu d'Anvers
Barbu D'Uccle
General Description:
True Bantam
(680g-910g)
The Barbu d'Uccle differs from both the other two in that it has feathered legs
and a single comb.
Unfortunately the bird below refused to stand up properly. His stance should be
more like the middle picture above, but at least you can see his feathered legs.

Barbu De
Watermael
General Description:
True Bantam
(450g-700g)
This is the smallest of the three bearded Belgians. The Barbu de
Watermael is perky, clean legged bird. The head appears larger than it is
because of its crest, muff, beard and small beak.

Barbu De Watermael
Main Colours:

Millefleur; Porcelaine; Quail; Blue Quail; Silver Quail; Lavender Quail; Black
Mottled;
Cuckoo; Black; White; Lavender; Blue.
