General Description: Large
Fowl (3.2Kg-4.1Kg) Bantam
(790g-1130g)
This is a very old breed and present
at the first poultry show in 1845. These attractive birds are kept both as
utility birds (for eggs and meat)
and for exhibition. The modern broiler bird and the battery hen were based upon
this breed so they are extremely important both commercially and as backyard
birds. The light and white varieties are the best layers, and at 260 eggs a year
they can only be equalled by the Rhode Island Red. They are docile and adaptable
- being happy kept free range or
more confined.
Main Colours:
Brown, Buff, Light, Red, Speckled, Silver, White.
